2014-2015 Slate of Candidates
Portland Storytellers’ Guild Board of Directors
Howard Adler – Treasurer
I have been on the board for six years and been treasurer for the last four. I would be honored to continue in the position of treasurer.
Maura Doherty – Marketing/Communications Chair
Maura Doherty is a story teller and writer with decades of experience in performing personal stories. She serves on the board of the Portland Storytellers’ Guild and actively supports their mission to support storytelling in Portland. She’s experienced in coaching others so they might find their voice and bring their stories to life. She is honored to work with others so they might share in this fun and life-giving craft.
Barbara Fankhauser- President
Barbara has been a member of the Guild since l989. She is completing a three year term on the board and has served as president for the past two years. It would be her honor to continue on the board to complete the goal she set to obtain a 501c3 designation for the Guild, as well as continue to help grow Tellabration, Festival of Stories and the ongoing concert and workshop series for the Guild in the coming years.
Rob Luck – Member-at-Large
Rob Luck comes from a long line of story tellers. His father was local entertainer in Hawaii and his mother the descendant of a Samoan “talking chief,” which explains, he says, “…why I’ve love storytelling all my life.” He also has been a clinical social worker for over 35 years and has worked both directly in the field and as in a number of social service and healthcare leadership positions. He is a happily married father of three adult children.
Rachael Pecore-Valdez – Member-at-large
With a background in environmental sciences, Rachael designed and coordinated Columbia Riverkeeper’s volunteer Adopt-a-River program, coordinated volunteers for the statewide Oregon Beach Cleanup for SOLVE, and created and organized the epicWolf OR-7 Expedition. Her work as an outdoor educator for Tracker’s Earth, Children of the Earth Foundation, and Two Rivers Farm School has fueled a passion for storytelling to increase environmental literacy (www.readingnature.com).
Working for small nonprofits lent her an ability to lithely wear many hats, from grant writer, volunteer coordinator, educator, partnership builder and outreach liaison. She is greatly inspired by the dedication and power of volunteers!
