Hailing from a long line of teachers and
Southern preachers (and a short line of one clown), Rick Huddle has
storytelling in his blood. With exuberance, and sometimes a guitar
sing-a-long, Rick tells both original stories and folktales, but they
all emphasize personal growth and challenge stereotypes.
Acclaimed
by The Oregonian for his "rubbery face and expressive body language",
his performance is honest and straightforward. In the age of
multi-million dollar movies and computer-animated special effects, it
is refreshing to hear someone tell their naked truth. With a background
in theater, improvisation, dance, and music, his stories come out and
meet the audience on a visceral level. His characters inspire moments
of laughter and intimacy for the audience to reflect and connect both
during and after the performance. His performances provide an outlet
for people to come together and think about relationships in a new way.
From
Washington, DC, to Troncones, Mexico, Rick has performed in nightclubs,
theaters, festivals, and intriguing non-traditional settings. In
addition to performing to sold-out theaters, he has been commissioned
as a storyteller for non-profit fundraisers and performed in
community-based ceremonies.Rick has been a selected storyteller at the
NW Folklife Festival in Seattle, Tapestry of Tales (Multnomah County's
Storytelling Festival), Hearing Voices (Washington Co. Storytelling
Festival), the San Francisco Fringe Festival, and tours of Jackson
County Library System in southern Oregon. He was chosen to contribute
to a CD celebrating the 10th year of the Stories by the Sea (Newport,
OR) festival. In May of 2008, he will perform at the Bay Area
Storytelling Festival. "Rick
Huddle's stories and storytelling reveal a deep sense of joy that
compassionately explore the frailty of the human experience. Humorous,
kindhearted, and rooted in personal experience, Rick holds up a mirror
in which we can see ourselves and smile.""Rick is a wonderful storyteller, and more important than the story he conveys, is his fun-loving spirit that he so freely shares with the audience. He is alive in his work in a magical way that wakes up audience members of all ages. Hisstories were the highlight of our Harvest Festival." Lori Walker, President
and Founder, Village Home Education Resource Center
Olga Sanchez, Artistic
Director, Miracle Theater Group
"Rick
Huddle is the Hoover vacuum of storytellers-- he just sucks you right
in." Marc Acito, author of How I Paid for College
"One of the Northwest's funniest children's entertainers."
