  Lawrence Howard

Lawrence Howard is originally from New York, but has lived in Portland most of his adult life. He has been a storyteller since he began to learn and recite the Yukon ballads of Robert W. Service at the age of 10. He has a special love of Yiddish folktales, epic narrative, Americana and the Antarctica.

Lawrence knows how to take listeners on a journey through the rich landscape of story.  He delivers stories that resonate with audiences. Lawrence draws from his rich repertoire of adventure, personal, and mythic tales to create narrative programs for people from all walks of life. His sold-out solo show, Shackleton's Antarctic Nightmare, has just been released on audio CD. He is excited about the next installment of the Armchair Adventurer series: the little-known story of Douglas Mawson and the Australian Antarctic Expedition of 1911. Mawson's Mettle: Alone On The Wide Shores Of The World premiered on January 22, 2010.

"Lawrence is a bold commanding performer who balances humor and insight to create understanding for his audiences."
Walt Schaefer past President, Portland Storytelling Guild

From adults looking for an engaging evening of entertainment to young scholars listening to literature come to life, Storyteller Lawrence Howard can enthrall audiences of all ages. Lawrence's repertoire appeals to a wide range of audiences and works wells in a variety of venues: storytelling festivals, conventions, business meetings, library programs, and middle and high schools. In addition to performing solo, Lawrence also tells in tandem with Lynne Duddy as StoryHarmonics and is a founding member of the Portland Story Theater ensemble.  http://www.portlandstorytheater.com/

"Lawrence's poignant and literary narrations transport you into an inner view of the human heart."
